A dispute over unpaid rent, maintenance charges, and complaints related to a pet cat escalated into a confrontation at an apartment complex in Jawaharnagar, where a 26-year-old man was questioned about his identity and called a “Pakistani” by some residents before police stepped in to resolve the matter.

The incident was reported at LakeView Apartments on Thursday night. The videos have been since making rounds across social media platforms.

According to Jawaharnagar Inspector S. Saidulu, a group of residents went to the flat occupied by an elderly woman and her 26-year-old relative to question them over the alleged non-payment of rent and maintenance charges. Residents had also raised complaints that a cat kept in the flat was causing inconvenience and disturbance to others in the apartment complex.

Police said the situation became tense as some residents were suspicious about the presence of the young man, who had recently begun staying in the apartment and had brought the cat with him. During the argument, residents questioned him about his background and whereabouts.

In the course of the confrontation, some residents allegedly referred to the man as a “Pakistani” and claimed he was staying in the apartment illegally, police said.

The woman informed residents that her son lives in Delhi and her daughter resides in Maharashtra, while the young man was staying with her.

Following information about the dispute, police intervened and counselled both sides. Inspector Saidulu said the matter was resolved amicably, with the residents apologising for their remarks and the family agreeing to comply with the apartment society’s rules and regulations.

No case was registered, and the issue was settled after discussions between the parties, the official explained.
