The general body meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) to be held in Kochi on June 21 is likely to be a stormy one with the rival factions blaming each other for the ongoing internal strife.

A decision on the disciplinary action is to be taken against four members, including actor Ansiba Hassan for airing their views in the media is unlikely before the crucial meeting. Besides her, the association leadership had issued show-cause notices dated June 10, 2026 to executive committee members Joy Mathew, Lakshmipriya, and Tini Tom. It alleged that the members had tarnished the image through public statements.

Actor Maala Parvathi said on Thursday (June 18, 2026) that she will resist any attempt to initiate action against Ms. Hassan, who had lodged complaints against fellow actors Mr. Tom and Ms. Lakshmipriya over alleged communal remarks and derogatory comments against her. She alleged that there was a concerted campaign to portray Ms. Hassan in a bad light.

The executive committee lacked any powers to expel a member as such decisions can be taken only by the general body according to the association by-laws, she said.

Asked whether she has hopes of getting justice at the general body meeting, Ms. Hassan said that she will look forward to it. “Let us see [what happens at the meeting]”, she said.

The actor, who resigned from the post of joint secretary earlier, said that she is yet to receive a reply on the clarification sought on the notice sent to her by the Secretary of the association.

In her reply to the show cause notice, she had asked that the specific violations of the by-law alleged against her be clearly spelt out.

She pointed out that the incidents involving Ms. Lakshmipriya, and Mr. Tom were purely personal matters and bore no connection to the association, particularly since the association had not taken any action despite being aware of complaints against both of them.

The association leadership is unlikely to initiate any disciplinary action against the four members before the general body meeting, according to people close to the development. They stated that it was up to the general body to take a call on such issues.
