The Rajajinagar police on Monday arrested a 40-year-old garment factory worker for allegedly misbehaving with a woman Police Sub Inspector and harassing the police personnel on duty on social media.
Based on the complaint, the police tracked down Selvakumar. He was arrested and charged under Sections 79 and 132 of BNS. He later remanded in judicial custody.
PSI Parvathi Bai-led traffic police team was on duty to check visible violations and drunk driving cases on Dr. Rajkumar Road on Saturday. Around 10 p.m., the police stopped Selvakumar, who was riding a bike without a helmet and was talking on the phone while driving. Heated arguments ensued when the police asked him for documents for verification. He demanded to see the order for the vehicle checks.
The police asked him for his licence and he showed the photo on his mobile phone. He then started video recording and refused to hand over the keys when the police went on to seize the bike as per the rules. The accused even refused to pay the fine and demanded a notice so that he could pay the fine.
“The accused created a ruckus and started video recording the police officials, shouting and accusing them of corrupt practices,” an official said. The police tried to reason with him, but he was furious and said that he was a member of a political party and that he would escalate the issue. The accused later uploaded the video on social media, which went viral, followed by abusive and derogatory comments against the police and the women police officer in particular.
