IIT Madras Professor highlights cellular mechanisms and cancer progression at seminar

To raise awareness and share the latest advancements in cell biology and biotechnology with students, researchers, and faculty, the Department of Botany at Dr. Lakireddy Hanimi Reddy Government Degree College, Mylavaram, NTR district, organised a lecture series and national seminar on Wednesday titled “Advances in Cell Biology and Biotechnology: From Molecular Insights to Biodiversity Conservation.” The event was sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India.

R. Suresh Kumar from IIT Madras delivered a lecture on “Basics of Cell Biology: From Normal to Cancer Cells,” providing an in-depth understanding of cellular mechanisms. He highlighted the transition from normal to cancerous cells, emphasising key cell components, mutations, and recent diagnostic advancements.

Vadivelamurugan Irulappan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Hyderabad, spoke on “Molecular Phylogenetics in Plants,” explaining the use of molecular tools and DNA sequencing to study plant evolutionary relationships, with applications in systematics and conservation.

J. Ramudu from the Department of Botany, Dr. Lakireddy Hanimi Reddy Government Degree College, Mylavaram, highlighted the role of biotechnology in biodiversity conservation. He discussed modern biotechnological approaches to preserve biodiversity, addressing global concerns such as habitat loss, genetic erosion, and climate change.
