Senior leaders of Tripura unit of the Congress on Tuesday (June 16, 2026) lodged a complaint with the local authority of the over alleged assault of Youth Congress members by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), during a protest rally against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak in Agartala on Monday (June 15, 2026).

They have also demanded action against the CRPF jawans who allegedly used abusive language against the protestors.

Former Health Minister and MLA Sudip Roy Barman; PCC(I) President Ashish Kumar Saha; and State youth Congress President Neel Saha met the DIG, CRPF, at his office. The complaint said the aggressive behaviour of the CRPF unit that was present at the protest site was unprecedented and against the law in all forms.

The delegation specifically named an Assistant Commandant who, despite requests from the State police officers, behaved in an arrogant manner. CRPF units are attached with all the district police segments in Tripura to assist them in maintaining law and order.

The Congress alleged that at least five Youth Congress members were hospitalised after being injured in baton charges by the CRPF personnel. Several were discharged after receiving first aid treatment.

Youth Congress President Neel Saha had earlier lodged a complaint with the West Agartala Police station against the CRPF jawans for unlawful assault on workers causing injuries and for allegedly uttering abusive comments. The police registered a case.

The protest rally called yesterday against the NEET paper leak and to press some other demands has been one of the biggest political shows the Congress party has organised in recent months. The police had barricaded them near the official residence of the Chief Minister and used water cannons to prevent them from advancing. Dozens of workers were taken into custody and were subsequently released.
