An advanced Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) laboratory was inaugurated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Andhra Medical College and King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam.

Doctors described the facility as a milestone in the history of the two institutions, noting that quality reproductive healthcare services would now be available free of cost for the families facing infertility. They said infertility affects one in six people globally, with an estimated 2.75 crore people in India experiencing the condition.

The IUI procedure involves processing healthy sperm and introducing it into the uterus at the optimal time to improve the chances of conception. The facility was established with equipment and infrastructure donated by the AMCOSA alumni association.

Necessary statutory approvals were obtained following recommendations from the health authorities and clearance by the district-level PCPNDT committee.
