The Telangana Government Pensioners’ Joint Action Committee (TGPJAC) urged the State government to ensure that pensions are credited on the first day of every month, on par with the recently announced system of salary payments to government employees.

In a representation to Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Wednesday, the TGPJAC welcomed the government’s decision to credit salaries of employees on the first of every month, as announced through a circular issued on June 9. The committee, however, sought a similar arrangement for pensioners across the State.

TGPJAC chairman K. Laxmaiah and secretary-general Tulasi Satyanarayana pointed out that nearly three lakh pensioners receiving pensions through District Treasury Offices (DTOs), Sub-Treasury Offices (STOs) and Assistant Pension Payment Offices (APPOs) generally receive their pensions on the first or second day of the month. However, in some districts, the payments are delayed until the seventh or eighth day, they said.

The committee claimed that pensioners of several organisations face delays in receiving pensions, with payments often made at the end of the month and, in some cases, only once in two or three months.
