Governor R.N. Ravi on Wednesday allocated portfolios to the Ministers in West Bengal. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will keep the portfolios of Home and Hill Affairs, Information and Cultural Affairs and Power along with other Ministries.

BJP MLA from Rashbehari, Swapan Dasgupta, will hold the charge of the Finance Department, and veteran politician Tapas Roy has been given the Ministry of Industries and Power. Sharadwat Mukherjee will hold the portfolio of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Dr. Mukherjee is a medical practitioner.

Journalist-turned-politician Jagannath Chattopadhyay will hold the charge of the Ministry of Higher Education and Technical Education, while Dipak Barman will hold the charge of the Ministry of School Education. Arjun Singh has been assigned the charge of the Labour and Transport Ministry. Sankar Ghosh will be in-charge of the Ministry of Parliament Affairs and Tourism, and Manoj Kumar Oraon will be in charge of the Ministry of Forest and Environment. Birbhum MLA Dudh Kumar Mondal has been allocated the charge of the Agriculture Ministry.

Several of the Ministers took charge of respective Ministries on Wednesday and spoke to media persons about their priorities. “My priority will be to bring back the Tatas in a big way in the State. The situation created by the previous TMC-led government was pathetic. We want to send a strong message that Bengal is ready for industry once again,” Industry Minister Mr. Tapas Roy said. The Minister added that he would hold talks with industrialists and business leaders across the country and abroad to attract investments to West Bengal.

Finance Minister Mr. Swapan Dasgupta said he would hold talks with different stakeholders and try to understand the situation on ground. Mr. Sankar Ghosh, who has taken up the charge of Tourism Ministry, said West Bengal had a lot of tourism potential and his objective would be to bring the State on the global tourism map.

Five Cabinet Ministers were sworn in along with Mr. Adhikari on May 9. There has been no change in the Ministries allocated to them. On June 1, 35 Ministers, who included 13 Cabinet Ministers, three Ministers of State with independent charge and 19 Ministers of State were sworn in by the Governor. They were allocated portfolios on Wednesday.

Among the Ministers of State (Independent Charge), Malti Rava Roy has been made the Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare, Social Welfare, Self-Help Groups, Self-Employment, and Project Monitoring. Rajesh Mahato is the Minister of State with Independent Charge for Livestock and Fisheries. Indranil Khan has been made the Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare, and Consumer Affairs.

Housing for Kalita Maji

Among the 19 Ministers of State, Jewel Murmu is the Minister of State for Tribal Development while Hare Krishna Bera has been given charge of Minister of State of Higher Education. House help-turned-MLA Kalita Maji has been made Minister of State for Housing.

The Council of Ministers has 41 Ministers, including Chief Minister Mr. Adhikari. There are about 54 departments in the West Bengal government.
