President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 days in office.

In a letter marking the occasion, the President described the achievement as an expression of the faith that voters had repeatedly placed in Mr. Modi’s leadership through successive elections.

“Few responsibilities in public life demand as much dedication, resilience and perseverance as the office of the Prime Minister of India,” Ms. Murmu wrote, adding that the milestone was not merely about the length of time spent in office but also about the confidence reposed in him by the people.

The President said the country had witnessed major changes across sectors during the past 12 years and welcomed the large participation of women in these initiatives aimed at financial inclusion. She also highlighted the use of technology in governance, saying that it has improved transparency, accountability and the delivery of public services. Welfare schemes were now reaching beneficiaries with greater speed and efficiency, helping strengthen trust between citizens and the government, she observed.

In her letter the President said that development under Mr. Modi’s tenure had increasingly focused on public participation, dignity and equal opportunity and highlighted that measures relating to poverty alleviation, healthcare, farmers’ welfare and support for the middle class has improved the lives of millions across the country.

Among the initiatives she mentioned, the PM-JANMAN programme for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), she said, “occupied a special place”. “The scheme reflected a commitment to ensuring that the benefits of development reached some of the country’s most marginalised communities. She also highlighted the efforts to improve infrastructure and development outcomes in eastern and north-eastern India,” the President noted.

Describing Mr. Modi’s rise from humble beginnings to the country’s highest elected office as an inspiring example of Indian democracy, Ms. Murmu said it demonstrated that public life remained open to those dedicated to service and hard work. She expressed confidence that his leadership would continue to advance the goals of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and a Viksit Bharat.
