After the conclusion of final rounds of counselling for CET-2025 and COMED-K-2025 this year, a total of 59,724 seats in professional courses including 33,568 engineering seats, remain vacant this year. This is higher compared to last year, when 51,105 seats remained vacant after counselling.
A total of 1,51,593 seats were available for professional courses under the government quota this year. Of these, only 1,10,447 seats were filled by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), leaving 41,146 seats vacant. On top of this, 18,578 seats lie vacant in COMED-K, totalling 59,724 vacant seats in professional courses.
Of the total 84,206 seats available in engineering courses under CET-2025, 69,216 seats have been filled, and 14,990 seats remain vacant. Meanwhile, of the 26,000 engineering seats available in engineering colleges under COMEDK, only 7,422 seats have been filled, leaving a total of 18,578 seats vacant.
Among the remaining seats, the nursing course makes the most of vacant lying seats. Of the total 32,218 nursing seats available, only 12,386 seats have been filled, leaving 19,832 seats vacant. Of the 3,953 seats available in BSc Allied Health Science course, 1,976 seats have been filled and 1,977 seats remain vacant.
However, all seats in Food Science, BSc (Agriculture), Veterinary Science (BVSc), and Sericulture courses have been filled.
Speaking to The Hindu, H. Prasanna, executive director, KEA, said, “Apart from medical courses, the counselling process for other professional courses, including engineering, has already been completed, and the remaining seats have been returned to the respective college managements. The responsibility of filling the vacant seats in government engineering colleges has been given to the principals of the respective colleges.”
Seats returned to private college managements will be converted into management quota seats.
