Farmers affected by land acquisition for the proposed Data Centre project at Tarluvada village in Anandapuram mandal staged a protest at the Collectorate in Visakhapatnam on Monday, demanding compensation and rehabilitation benefits promised by the State government.

The protesters alleged that compensation and rehabilitation measures had not been extended to all eligible beneficiaries despite project works progressing on the ground. They submitted a representation to district officials seeking immediate intervention.

According to the affected farmers, about 266 acres were acquired for the project, affecting 520 farmers. They alleged that compensation claims relating to 52 assigned-land holders remained unresolved and that discrepancies in survey and revenue records had resulted in several beneficiaries being left out of the compensation process.

The farmers contended that the government had assured compensation and rehabilitation within 15 days of the foundation stone-laying ceremony, but the promise had not been fulfilled. They also alleged that access roads to agricultural fields had been affected by project-related activities.

CPI(M) district secretariat member R. Gangarao, said land-losers were yet to receive compensation in accordance with assurances given at the time of acquisition. He urged the authorities to rectify errors in survey records and ensure that all eligible beneficiaries received compensation without delay.

The protesters demanded that no further construction activity be taken up until pending compensation and rehabilitation issues were resolved.
