Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita and District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Monday reviewed rescue and relief measures at the site of the fatal accident at the Steel Melting Shop-1 (SMS-1) of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, where eight workers lost their lives.

Accompanied by city Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi, they visited the accident site and were briefed by steel plant officials on the circumstances leading to the mishap, rescue operations, safety protocols and relief measures being extended to the affected workers and their families.

The leaders also reviewed the medical treatment being provided to the injured employees and directed officials to ensure the best possible care and support. Officials informed them that all necessary steps were being taken to manage the situation and assist the affected families.

Expressing concern over the tragedy, Mr. Sribharat and Ms. Anita called for a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of the accident and stressed the need to strengthen workplace safety systems to prevent similar incidents in future. The Home Minister, who rushed to Visakhapatnam from Vizianagaram, reviewed the situation with senior district officials.

Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju expressed shock over the loss of lives and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He said robust safety standards must be evolved and enforced effectively to prevent the recurrence of such accidents.

Mr. Vishnu Kumar Raju said the families of the deceased would receive all necessary assistance from the State and Central governments as well as the steel plant management. He added that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had directed officials to ensure the best available medical treatment for the injured workers, irrespective of the cost involved.
