Compared to private colleges, the performance of government PU colleges has been very poor in CET-2026. Equally poor is the performance of rural students when compared to those from tier-1 and tier-2 cities, even as the rankings of Kannada-medium students were also left wanting.

12 in top 1,000

This year, only 12 government PU college students got spots within 1,000 CET ranks and this number is 53 in the first 5,000 ranks. As many as 108 students have found spots in the top 10,000 ranks. A total of 8,414 students applied from government colleges for CET, and of that number, 7,620 appeared this year.

None in top 100

Government college students had no presence in the top 100 CET ranks. In the top 1,000 ranks, only 12 students — five from Bengaluru Urban, two each from Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada, and one each from Chitradurga, Kalaburagi and Mysuru — were in the list.

The performance of students from rural areas was below par, as only 79 students are in top 1,000 ranks and 499 in the top 5,000 ranks. As many as 1,292 are in the top 10,000 ranks.

The performance of Kannada-medium students too is poor, with only nine in the top 1,000 ranks and 75 in the top 5,000 ranks. There are 226 in the top 10,000 ranks.
