Two arrested for attempting to sell monitor lizard in Kollegal

The Kollegal CID Forest Mobile Squad has arrested two persons, who were illegally transporting a monitor lizard intended for sale near the banks of the river Cauvery at Sattegala hand post in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district.

Personnel from the CID Forest Mobile Squad, acting on information, reached the riverbank near Sattegala handpost around 3.15 p.m. on Wednesday and found two individuals attempting to sell a live monitor lizard kept inside an iron cage, which was wrapped with a wire mesh, according to a statement.

The officials immediately arrested the two persons, seized the animal and registered a case. The arrested persons have been identified as Sardar alias Mukhtar Pasha, 45, and Rafi, 44, both residents of Hunsur. 

The raid was conducted by Kollegal CID Forest Mobile Squad Police Sub-Inspector Avinash, along with personnel Basavaraj, Swamy, Jameel, Latha, Ramachandra, Prabhakar, and Basavaraj under the guidance of CID Forest Unit Inspector General of Police, Bengaluru, and Superintendent of Police of the Madikeri CID Forest Unit.
