Congress names Siddaramaiah as Congress Working Committee member

Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) named as a member of the Congress Working Committee.

The announcement by the party came a day before the swearing-in ceremony of chief minister-designate D K Shivakumar and days after Siddaramaiah’s resignation.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Siddaramaiah as member of the Congress Working Committee with immediate effect, a party statement said.

The top Congress leadership on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) held day-long deliberations with Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar on giving the final shape to the new cabinet in the State.

Former party chief Rahul Gandhi will be present at the swearing-in along with Mr. Kharge.

Congress Chief Ministers from Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana would also attend the oath ceremony, along with the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand. Some other senior Opposition leaders are also likely to attend the event.
