AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, on Tuesday (June 2, 2026), criticised the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu under the TVK-led government and urged Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to “step out of illusion, assume responsibility” of his position and uphold the rule of law.

Criticising the government for the murder of a youth in Tondiarpet in Chennai, who reportedly challenged the sale of ganja, Mr. Palaniswami asked: “Is this the answer if someone challenges the sale of ganja? Is this the change?” While so, Mr. Vijay, in a public meeting held in Tiruchi on Monday (June 1), was quite concerned about the criticism made against him, Mr. Palaniswami pointed out.

“He [Mr. Vijay] has apparently posted officers. Is it sufficient to just post officers? Aren’t these officers serving under any government? The change in governance should start with the rulers,” the former Chief Minister said. It is a “matter of shame” that someone responsible for maintaining law and order is attempting to evade, he charged.

Delay in launch of ‘Singappen Special Task Force’

The AIADMK leader questioned the delay in the launch of the ‘Singappen Special Task Force’ after the arrangements were made. “Did you compromise the safety of the women of Tamil Nadu so that you could attend the function of your secretary? Should the safety of women of Tamil Nadu wait till next week?”

Mr. Palaniswami further asked: “Should people die till the time you complete your six-month crash course on how to govern? Can none question you?” Criticising Mr. Vijay as the leader of a political party, Mr. Palaniswami referred to the arrest of two TVK partymen who were allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a woman in Thoothukudi district.

“How many ruling party men have been involved in various offences and arrested during the past three weeks? As a leader of a political party who could not control his own partymen, how can he administer the police force? How will this government protect the people? How will it ensure the safety of women?” Mr. Palaniswami asked.
