Notification for commencing the process of biennial elections scheduled on June 18 for filling up four vacancies in the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka were issued on June 1. These four vacancies will be filled through polling in which the MLAs of Karnataka will exercise their franchise.

The notification would mark the beginning of the process of filing nominations for the polls. As per the notification, June 8 is the last day for filing nominations, which would be scrutinised on June 9. The last day for withdrawal of nominations is June 11.

Polling will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 18. Counting of votes would be taken up at 5 p.m. on the same day.

The biennial elections were necessitated following the retirement of former prime minister H. D. Deve Gowda, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge, and BJP members Iranna Kadadi and Narayana Koragappa, on June 25.

The Election Commission of India had announced the calendar of events for these polls, as per which the notification was issued on June 1.
