A Tahsildar and a Village Administrative Officer (VAO)in Vellore were booked by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for issuing patta for government land.

DVAC sources said that K. Venda was working as tahsildar for land acquisition (LA) at Revenue Divisional Office (RDO) in Vellore and S. Suresh works as VAO for Veppankuppam village that comes under Anaicut taluk in the district.

Initial inquiry revealed that Venda was working as Tahsildar for Anaicut taluk in 2023-24 when she reportedly issued patta for around 1,700 sq.ft of government land that was allocated for housing quarters for police personnel.

Along with VAO Suresh, Tahsildar Venda created false entries in administrative records to issue patta for the land to R. Umapathy, husband of Veppankuppam panchayat president U. Suganya. Following the revelations, cases were booked under Prevention of Corruption (Amendement) Act 2018. A probe is under way.
