The social and educational survey which was launched across the State on Monday did not have a smooth start in Dharwad district because of various technical glitches.

Mobile application not opening, OTP errors and network issues were the most common problems faced by enumerators at the start of the mega survey.

According to official sources, technical glitches were reported in the taluks of Hubballi, Kundgol, Navalgund, Kalghatgi and Annigeri.

The problems were mainly related to the app and OTP.

Enumerators were seen calling their higher-ups to report the issue and it took some time for them to address the technical problems.

District Officer of the Department of Backward Classes Development C. Bhanumathi told presspersons that as the mobile phones were of older versions, the application was not opening and the issues were addressed subsequently.

In Navalgund taluk however, the survey did not take off as attempts by enumerators did not yield any positive result till 5.30 p.m.

In a few villages of Kundgol taluk, enumerators gave up after 2 p.m.

An enumerator on the condition of anonymity said that teachers also faced problems as they were deployed to conduct survey in places that were 40-50 km away from their place of work.

In Hubballi taluk also, the survey could not be taken up due to technical problems.

At the Government Kannada Boys School No 5 in Ghantikeri, although Hubballi City Tahsildar Mahesh Gaste distributed survey material to enumerators and inaugurated it, the survey could not be taken up throughout the day.

“There are 100 supervisors and 1,814 surveyors in the taluk. They have already been trained and given survey kits. Each surveyor has been assigned 150 houses, but the allocation of households is not appearing in the app. Once the issue is resolved, surveyors will visit each household to collect information,” Mr. Gaste said.

Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. visited several areas to inspect the progress of the survey and interacted with enumerators.

She said that enumerators have been given proper training. She asked them to carefully record the details.

Ms. Prabhu said that enumerators should complete the survey of households allotted to them by October 7 without fail.

She said that the survey will be taken up for 16 days till October 7 during which 5.46 lakh households will be covered. A total of 4,880 enumerators has been deployed for the purpose, she said and made an appeal to residents to cooperate with enumerators by giving the requisite details.
