Two men have been arrested on the charge of robbing a senior citizen of gold and valuables, in Belagavi.
A team from the Camp Police Station arrested Rahul Kamble and Babasaheb Katageri, who robbed Vishwanath of 930 grams of gold worth ₹73 lakh.
Mr. Vishwanth’s children had appointed Rahul as the caretaker. He gained the trust of the elderly man, and identified the spot where the valuables were kept. He allegedly stole the gold in small portions, and deposited them in a private firm in exchange for gold loans. Babasaheb allegedly helped him in this crime.
Investigators have recovered the valuables.
Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao told reporters in Belagavi on May 29 that he would request families to deposit valuables in bank lockers, rather than keep them at home. He congratulated the team of officers, led by Deputy Commissioners of police Narayan Baramani and Niranjan Raje Urs, for solving the crime.
