The prime accused in an attempt-to-murder case, who allegedly attacked a man with a beer bottle following a family feud, was arrested from the Nedumbassery airport on Friday while attempting to flee abroad. Three other accused in the case have also been taken into custody, the police said.

The main accused, Sharath, 31, of Vanchipura in Kaipamangalam, was apprehended from the Nedumbassery airport. The Thrissur Rural police had issued a lookout circular. He was intercepted by immigration officials at the Cochin International Airport while trying to leave for Oman. The police later registered his arrest.

The other accused—Mithun, 30, Mukesh, 28, and Hari, 26, all natives of Vanchipura—were arrested earlier by the special investigation team led by Thrissur District Police Chief (Rural) B. Krishnakumar.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday (May 27) at Punnakkachal in Kaipamangalam. The victim, Sooraj (44), was riding a motorcycle when Sharath allegedly confronted him, leading to an argument. As Mr. Sooraj attempted to leave the spot, Sharath struck him on the head with a beer bottle.

The attack left Mr. Sooraj with a deep forehead injury and a skull fracture. Based on a complaint filed by Sooraj’s sister, the Kaipamangalam police registered a case of attempt to murder.

Following the incident, the police received information that Sharath was planning to flee the country. Acting swiftly, the authorities issued a lookout circular.

The police said Sharath is involved in at least five criminal cases registered at the Kaipamangalam, Mathilakam, and Anthikad police stations.
