Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao, on Thursday (May 27, 2026), demanded the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Telangana, stating that it would ensure legal property and adoption rights for women and children across the country.

Speaking at a party cadre training camp in Moinabad, Rangareddy district, Mr. Rao asserted that the UCC is not directed against any religion or caste. He clarified that the customs and traditions of Scheduled Tribes would be protected and a uniform civil law would apply to all other citizens.

Drawing parallels with the abrogation of Article 370, Mr. Rao said the UCC is a key ideological commitment of the BJP and is essential for national integration. He pointed out that States such as Uttarakhand, Goa, and Assam have already implemented similar laws, calling them progressive steps.

Mr. Rao also welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing opposition parties of spreading misinformation about voter list purification. He alleged that the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) were misleading the public on the Election Commission’s efforts to remove fake and deceased voters.

Telangana govt apathy towards farmers

Later, during a visit to a grain procurement centre in Chintapalli mandal, Nalgonda district, Mr. Rao expressed strong dissatisfaction over what he termed as the State government’s negligence toward farmers. Despite available agricultural production estimates, procurement had not taken place at designated centres for nearly 25 days, causing distress among farmers.

Recent unseasonal rains have left heaps of paddy, maize, and sunflower crops soaked and sprouting at the centers, yet the government has failed to respond. He demanded Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with the Ministers for Agriculture and Revenue, ‘open their eyes’ to the reality on the ground and take steps for immediate procurement of every single grain of paddy, including the rain-soaked crop.

The party’s ongoing outreach campaign, ‘Farmers’ Distress-BJP’ Assurance’ tour, which began in Kulakacherla, Vikarabad district, is closely monitoring farmers’ issues and is currently underway in Sarangapur (Nirmal district) with the BJLP leader A. Maheshwar Reddy at the helm. He issued a stern warning to officials, instructing them not to extract any money from farmers and instead focus on streamlining procurement operations.
