Temperatures across the State are likely to remain within normal limits over the next three days.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) here said in its temperature forecast that only isolated pockets in north interior parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness a rise in maximum temperature by two to three degrees Celsius.

“There won’t be much of a change in maximum temperatures, only perhaps by 0.5 to one degree Celsius,” said V.R. Durai, Director, Regional Weather Forecasting Centre.

He also said that for Chennai city and the northern districts, the maximum temperature would be around 40-41 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The sky conditions would be partly cloudy.

On Wednesday, maximum temperatures across the State remained below 40 degrees Celsius as a circulation over the Bay of Bengal led to clouding. But this was just a one day occurance as the system has moved on towards the north-west.

Heavy rain has been forecast on Thursday and Friday at isolated places over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Erode districts. One or two places are likely to have thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 40-50 kmph.

Light to moderate rain is likely at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal area.
