The Rayalaseema Saguneeti Sadhana Samiti announced that the 10th anniversary convention of the “Siddeswaram Alugu Praja Sankusthapana” movement will be held on May 31 at ASR Kalyana Mandapam near Chabolu Metta on the outskirts of Nandyal.

In a release on Tuesday (May 26, 2026), the leaders said the organisation has been consistently fighting for Rayalaseema irrigation projects and the overall development of the drought-prone region. During the meeting, they unveiled a video documenting the historic public foundation programme held on May 31, 2016.

The leaders said that despite the Krishna and Tungabhadra Rivers flowing through Rayalaseema and hundreds of TMCs of water flowing downstream from Srisailam, the region continues to suffer from severe drought conditions and migration. They asserted that construction of the Siddeswaram Barrage was essential for the comprehensive development of Rayalaseema.

They recalled that thousands of people voluntarily participated in the symbolic public foundation ceremony in 2016 after repeated appeals to successive governments failed to yield results. Since then, annual programmes have been organised to continue the movement and exert democratic pressure on governments over irrigation issues.

Former minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao, retired Supreme Court judge Gopal Gowda, Andhra Pradesh Raithu Coolie Sangham president Jhansi, and Hyderabad Central University professor Venkatesh are expected to attend the convention as chief guests.

The Samiti criticised both ruling and opposition parties for allegedly neglecting Rayalaseema’s irrigation and development issues after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, and urged people to unite and fight for their rightful share of water resources and development projects.
