The CBI, on Monday night (May 25, 2026) at around 8:30 p.m., registered an FIR in the Twisha Sharma dowry death case, under BNS Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5), after a team arrived from New Delhi and took over the case from the Bhopal Police, as per the FIR.

After the meeting, the CBI re-registered the state police FIR as its own case, according to the procedure.

The case was referred by Rajnish Kashyap Kaul, ACP Misrod and the head of the SIT probing the case so far.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday (May 25, 2026) granted two days to retired judge Giribala Singh to file her reply on two pleas challenging the anticipatory bail granted to her in the Twisha Sharma dowry death and harassment case, with the State Government telling the court that she was not cooperating with the probe.

The development comes on a day when the special investigating team (SIT) of the Bhopal Police interrogated Ms. Singh for the first time since the FIR was filed in the case on May 15. Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar ruled out allegations of tampering with the CCTV camera footage from Ms. Singh’s house, where Twisha Sharma was found dead on the night of May 12.

Earlier in the evening, the Bhopal Police SIT took Samarth Singh to his house to recreate the events of May 12 at the spot and recover crucial evidence, an officer said.

Hearing the case on Monday (May 25, 2026), a Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said it will ensure the investigation is fair, independent, and impartial investigation.
