Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister for School Education and Literacy S. Madhu Bangarappa, at a meeting on the issues of the School Education and Literacy Department at Home Office Krishna in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the officials of the School Education and Literacy Department to start the tender process to open 800 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) across the State.

During the review meeting of the department on Wednesday, he said that the KPS project will be launched in Shivamogga on June 1, 2026. Around 1,200 children will receive admission in one KPS, and education will be provided in Kannada and English medium from LKG to II Pre-University Course (PUC). “All 800 KPS should be fully prepared in the next two years,” he said.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to submit a proposal to the Finance department immediately for the recruitment of 15,000 teachers. “The shortage of teachers is impacting the quality of education at government schools, and it should be addressed immediately,” he said.

However, officials informed the Chief Minister that they were awaiting resolution of the internal reservation issue, and, with the Cabinet now clearing it, they will incorporate it, submit a proposal to the Finance Department, and issue a notification.

According to department officials, they will be able to complete the recruitment process within 100 days after they get a nod from the Finance Department.

During the meeting, Mr. Siddaramaiah also discussed the results of SSLC and II PUC this year. He appreciated the teachers and department officials for the historic results.

He also instructed officials to take necessary steps to distribute free textbooks along with free notebooks to students in schools and PU colleges.

School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, department Principal Secretary Rashmi Mahesh and others were present.
