Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday (May 20, 2026) alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is weakening the reservation system, adding that candidates from marginalised sections like Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Minorities are not getting their rightful share in recruitment exercises.

Mr. Yadav, who released a ‘Samajwadi Audit Report’ regarding the misappropriation of reservation quotas, further alleged that the scams and corruption have plagued recruitment processes under the BJP government.

The audit report provided detailed information regarding alleged failure of reservation rules across 22 different recruitment drives, including the recruitment of 69,000 teachers, Forest and Wildlife Guards, recruitment at Banda Agriculture University, Masters and Headmasters for Aided Junior High Schools, Village Panchayat Officers, Eye Testing Officers, Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) Stenographers, recruitment for the Lakhimpur Cooperative sector, Veterinary Officers, Lekhpals (Revenue Clerks), Health and Education Officers, Ayurvedic Medical Officers, and Agricultural Technical Assistants.

“PDA is not getting its rights under the BJP rule,” Mr. Yadav, said. PDA (Pichhda, Dalit and Alpasankhyak) is an acronym for OBCs, Dalits and Minorities.

“In the 69,000-teacher recruitment process, students belonging to the Backward Classes were entitled to a constitutionally mandated reservation of 27%; however, they received only 3.86%, amounting to a misappropriation of 23.14% of their reserved quota. Similarly, while the reservation quota for Scheduled Castes stands at 21%, they received only 16.21% in the 69,000-teacher recruitment drive—marking a misappropriation of 4.8% of their quota,” said Mr. Yadav, addressing the press conference titled ‘Samajwadi Audit Report’.

“Even the National Commission for the Backward Classes has acknowledged a scam involving 20,000 seats within this teacher recruitment process. Furthermore, during the 2022 elections, in U.P., the government itself admitted to the misappropriation of reservation quotas in the teacher recruitment drive and subsequently released an additional selection list comprising 6,800 posts. In a particularly shameful act, the BJP government has left 1,133 posts reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) unfilled,” he added.

In total, Mr. Yadav alleged that over 11,514 seats of reserved categories were not filed with candidates hailing from these reserved groups across 22 examinations. In the breakup, the SP chief claimed that in forest/wildlife guard recruitment, 88 seats were not filled as per rules of reservation, while in Gram Panchayat Officer Recruitment on 232 seats, the reservation criteria were not followed, in Aided Junior High School Master/Headmaster Recruitment 547 seats were not filled as per rules, and in Lekhpal recruitment irregularities were on 960 seats.

Mr. Yadav added that candidates of the 69,000-teacher recruitment drive had knocked on every door in their quest for justice, yet they received no redress under the BJP government.

“Wherever the BJP government found an opportunity, it engaged in the misappropriation of posts. Similarly, during university recruitment processes, individuals belonging to reserved categories are excluded by being labelled “NFS” (Not Found Suitable). The BJP government is a regime characterised by both the plundering of reservation rights and the concealment of data,” he further said.

“The Samajwadi Party would continue its struggle against the BJP government’s bias and predatory practices. This government’s days are now numbered. Upon forming the government in 2027, the Samajwadi Party will deliver justice to the candidates involved in the 69,000-teacher recruitment drive within 90 days and will undertake the task of conducting a caste census. A Samajwadi government will establish a rule of social justice and ensure justice for all,” added the SP president.

The SP further said the audit is a start of a larger outcry for social justice, and it will ultimately lead to the overthrow of the BJP government. “We will take the reports on injustice against PDA across villages and blocks of Uttar Pradesh. We will sensitise common people about the injustice committed by the BJP government and how social justice norms are not followed, the BJP will lose power in 2027,” said Sunil Singh Yadav ‘Sajan’, the SP spokesperson.
