The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has launched a new Volvo air-conditioned ‘Vajra Vistara’ bus service between Bengaluru and Tumakuru starting May 19, aiming to improve inter-city public transport connectivity.

According to a press release by the BMTC, the corporation will initially operate 54 trips at intervals of 20 minutes between Kempegowda Bus Station in Bengaluru and Tumakuru.

The route was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in the presence of Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Tuesday. The fare for the full journey has been fixed at ₹120, inclusive of GST and toll charges. The buses will halt at several points along the route, including Navarang, Govardhan Talkies, Goraguntepalya, Jalahalli Cross, T. Dasarahalli, 8th Mile, and Widia Stop before reaching Kyathsandra and Tumakuru. The ticket prices will vary according to boarding points, starting from ₹25 at Navarang and going up to ₹120 for Tumakuru.

The BMTC currently operates 6,275 schedules with 65,952 trips daily, catering to around 45 lakh passengers every day. The BMTC also operates 1,741 electric buses as part of its fleet.
