The new State Cabinet in Kerala should send a strong message to the nation by ensuring adequate representation for women, youth and those belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe communities, B. Ekbal, activists and public health experts, has said.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Ekbal pointed out that this was important as the legislation to increase women’s representation in Parliament and State Legislatures to one-third or 33% is being discussed widely. Alongside, the demand for greater representation of marginalised sections of society at governance-level is also gaining strength.
The presence of youth leaders should also increase in the Cabinet to ensure that the aspirations of a modern and developed Kerala are fulfilled.
Dr. Ekbal suggested that in the light of these realities, the CM-designate and other political leaders should give serious consideration to the inclusion of the following names – Remya Haridas, Usha Vijayan, Shanimol Usman, Bindu Krishna, Fathima Tahiliya and K.K Rema – in the Cabinet.
