Congress is raking up hijab issue after developments in Davangere South by poll

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy has accused the Congress of raking up the hijab issue in the light of developments around the Davangere South Assembly Constituency. He said that the hijab issue is in court and that there is a stay order.

“I have spoken about hijab issue extensively in the Assembly. People know my opinion about hijab. There is nothing new to add,” he told presspersons here. “Can you justify the removal of sacred thread from a student during an examination recently? Everything is being done for politics. For Congress, political profit is more important than peace in society. Scared by the way people have voted, Congress has taken this decision.”

Questioning the silence of the government on hijab for three years, Mr. Kumaraswamy said: “There is a convention of Muslims on May 16. They have taken the decision in duress. Otherwise, they would have taken this decision soon after they came to power. This is to appease one community and the government is disrespecting the judiciary.”
