AIADMK legislature party splits vertically during trust vote in Tamil Nadu Assembly

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) legislature party on Wednesday (May 13, 2026) witnessed a vertical split during the trust vote on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. A total of 25 MLAs led by rebel leader S.P. Velumani voted in favour of the confidence motion moved by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, while 22 MLAs led by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami voted against it.

When Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar called for a division vote, the 47 AIADMK MLAs were clearly divided in their positions on the motion. A total of 25 MLAs, headed by S.P. Velumani, voted in favour of the motion. They are G. Hari (Tiruttani), Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam (SC)), S.M. Sukumar (Arcot), K.C. Veeramani (Jolarpet), P. Balakrishnareddy (Hosur), K.P. Anbalagan (Palacodu), Maragatham Vetrivel (Pappireddippatti), C.Ve. Shanmugam (Mailam), R. Rakesh (Sankarapuram), S. Sekar (Paramathi-Velur), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram (SC)), N.S.N. Nataraj (Kangayam), S. Jayakumar (Perundurai), P. Haribaskar (Anthiyur), S.P. Velumani (Thondamuthur), K. Ravimanoharan (Palani), Natham R. Viswanathan (Natham), M.R. Vijayabhaskar (Karur), Leemarose Martin (Lalgudi), K. Mohan (Panruti), A. Arunmozhithevan (Bhuvanagiri), R. Kamaraj (Nannilam), C. Vijayabaskar (Viralimalai), Dhilipan Jaishankar (Sankarankovil (SC)), and Esakki Subbaya (Ambasamudram).

A total of 22 MLAs headed by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami voted against the motion. They are E. Rajasekar (Cheyyur (SC)), D. Velazhagan (Anaikattu), E.C. Govindarasan (Bargur), V. Sampathkumar (Harur (SC)), S. Velu (Chengam (SC)), S. Ramachandran (Kilpennathur), Agri S.S. Krishnamurthy (Kalasapakkam), L. Jayasudha (Arani), Mukkur N. Subramanian (Cheyyar), S. Palanisamy (Tirukkoyilur), A. Nallathambi (Gangavalli (SC)), A.P. Jayasankaran (Attur (SC)), P. Usharani (Yercaud (ST)), R. Mani (Omalur), G. Venkatachalam (Mettur), Edappadi K. Palaniswami (Edappadi), S. Vetrivel (Sankari), K.C. Karuppanan (Bhavani), S. Rajendran (Ariyalur), R. Rajendran (Neyveli), O.S. Manian (Vedaranyam), and N. Thalavai Sundaram (Kanniyakumari).
