Free vaccination for cervical cancer until May 31

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign against cervical cancer has entered its final phase in the district. With campaign all set to end by May 31, 2026, District Collector G. Priyanka said that all eligible girls should get vaccinated to ensure their safety.

At present, only 34% (7,496) among the targeted children in the district have been vaccinated , as per a communication. The campaign is targeting a total of 22,358 girls in the district.

The facility will not be available after May 31. The vaccine is being given to girls aged 14 years and for those up to 15 years and three months of age, it said.

The Collector clarified that the vaccine was without any side effects other than a minor pain or swelling.

According to the communication, the vaccine, which costs between ₹4,000 and ₹6,500 in private hospitals, is being provided free of cost at all government hospitals in the district during the campaign period.
