Tension prevailed in Belur in Hassan district on Sunday (September 21, 2025), following the alleged desecration of Ganesha idol at a temple in the historic town.

The residents of the town gathered, condemning the incident. They demanded the immediate arrest of the person who desecrated the idol in the temple.

Belur MLA H.K. Suresh of the BJP, who visited the town, stated that it was a heinous act committed with an intention to insult Hindus. “The police have taken note of the incident and formed teams to identify the people involved. CCTV footage captured at the temple shows that a woman did it. We want to know who she was and what her intention was, besides who was behind such an act,” he said.

Further, the MLA said that the police officers had sought a few hours’ time to arrest the case. “If the police fail to act, we will intensify the protest,” he added.
