Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president and leader of the single largest party C. Joseph Vijay will take oath as the Chief Minister on Sunday (May 10, 2026) at Nehru Stadium in Chennai at 3.15 p.m.

Mr. Vijay earlier called on Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan in Chennai to stake claim to form a government in Tamil Nadu, ending the nail-biting political uncertainty that prevailed in the State. Mr. Vijay has the support of 120 MLAs-elect in the 234 member House.

This is the fourth time Mr. Vijay has met the Governor in a period of four days. Earlier in the day, Mr. Vijay met the Governor after the VCK and IUML extended unconditional support to TVK. Mr. Vijay was accompanied by leaders from the Congress, VCK, CPI (M), CPI, and IUML, during his meeting with Governor.

In identically worded letters, similar to those sent by the Left parties and addressed to the Governor, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president K.M. Kader Mohideen said their respective parties extended unconditional support to the TVK, under the leadership of party president C. Joseph Vijay, to form the government. Both parties have two MLAs-elect each. They contested as a part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.

With the backing of the VCK and the IUML, the TVK now has the support of 120 MLAs-elect, (as Mr. Vijay contested from two seats), two more than the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member House. The TVK, which won 108 seats, had already secured the support of five Congress MLAs-elect and two each from the CPI and the CPI(M).
