A day after the Cabinet expansion in Bihar, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Friday (May 8, 2026) targeted former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over dynasty politics. While addressing the press at the party office in Patna, Mr. Yadav asserted that Mr. and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have no moral right to speak on dynasty politics.
Mr. Yadav took a jibe at the alliance partners of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), stressing that all are now in the grip of dynasty politics. He pointed out that three Ministers in Samrat Choudhary’s Cabinet are sons of three former Chief Ministers of Bihar, and nearly 17 sons and daughters of former politicians are part of the new Cabinet.
“A government has finally been constituted after a delay of six months, and within these six months, the State has seen the appointment of two Chief Ministers and four Deputy Chief Ministers. The Cabinet expansion, which took place yesterday, displayed absolutely no vision, nor did it reflect any thought process regarding development,” Mr. Yadav said.
He pointed out that without contesting any elections or holding membership in any house, Mr. Kumar’s son, Nishant, and Upendra Kushwaha’s son, Deepak Prakash, have reaped the benefits of being “leaders’ sons” and have subsequently been appointed as Ministers. He questioned why there was no discussion over those individuals who have become Ministers without securing a public mandate.
“We all know that Nitish Kumar had previously snapped the alliance on the grounds of opposing dynastic politics. Now the Chief Minister himself is a product of dynastic politics. The present cabinet has 17 ministers from a political background. The cabinet includes the sons of three former Chief Ministers: Nitish Kumar, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Dr. Jagannath Mishra,” Mr. Yadav said.
Targeting PM Modi, he recalled that during election campaigns, Mr. Modi used to refer to him as ‘Shahzade’ (Prince). “Now, the leaders of the BJP and JD(U) must explain who the real ‘Prince’ is, “ he said.
He pointed out that those who have become Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Ministers have precisely worked alongside his father, Lalu Prasad and the RJD. He asserted that the current Chief Minister hails from “Lalu Ji’s school of politics.
He claimed that in the Cabinet expansion, neither regional balance nor caste balance has been taken into account and castes such as Nai, Amat, Nonia, Chaurasia, Beldar, Dangi, Dhobi, and other similar communities have been denied representation. Mr. Yadav also charged the State government for appointing a lone Muslim leader in the Cabinet.
He asked that the government explain why women were not allocated a 33% quota within the Cabinet, and the few women who have been appointed as Ministers owe their positions solely to dynastic politics.
He strongly condemned the police resorting to lathicharge to disperse the aspirants of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0 demanding the release of the examination notification from the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) on Friday (May 8, 2026).
“When students of the TRE-4 examinations were making genuine demands, they were subjected to a baton charge. Now, the demands for jobs and employment raised by the youth will be suppressed by beating them with sticks,” Mr. Yadav said.
When asked about the West Bengal results and opposition unity, Mr. Yadav asserted that all the regional parties should sit together to discuss the issue because only the regional parties can stop the juggernaut of the BJP.
Meanwhile, most of the Cabinet Ministers who took the oath on Thursday (May 7, 2026) took charge of their respective departments, including Mr. Nishant Kumar as Health Minister.
