The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Friday announced the results of the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination, with 92.02% of candidates passing. The pass percentage has declined for the third consecutive year.

The SSC examination recorded a drop in the pass percentage compared with the previous three years. In 2025, the pass percentage was 94.10%; in 2024, it was 95.81%; and in 2023, it stood at 93.83%, according to the MSBSHSE.

A total of 15,55,026 students from the State’s nine divisional boards — Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur and Konkan — had registered for the examination. Of them, 15,42,472 students appeared for the examination and 14,20,486 passed.

Maharashtra School Education Minister Dada Bhuse congratulated the successful candidates, saying, “These students are the future of Maharashtra.” Addressing students who did not clear the examination, he said, “The result of one examination cannot determine your entire life or your intelligence. This is the first step. Do not feel discouraged and try again. Since the opportunity for re-examination is available, take advantage of it.”

Girls outperform boys

Girls outperformed boys in the examination, with the pass percentage among girls being 5.40 percentage points higher than that of boys.

Of the 7,22,045 girls who appeared for the examination, 6,85,672 passed, recording a pass percentage of 94.96. Among boys, 7,34,814 passed out of 8,20,427 candidates, resulting in a pass percentage of 89.56.

Konkan division tops the State

The Konkan division recorded the highest pass percentage among regular students at 97.62, while the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division recorded the lowest at 88.41.

Among the other divisions, Kolhapur recorded a pass percentage of 95.47, followed by Mumbai (94.97), Pune (94.24), Nashik (90.53), Amravati (90.50), Nagpur (89.07) and Latur (88.42).

Among students who passed the examination, 27.41% secured first division with distinction, 31.26% secured first division, 24.66% secured second division, and 8.75% passed in the pass category.
