The Bengaluru Rural police on Thursday intercepted a truck allegedly carrying contraband worth an estimated ₹ 1.25 crore and arrested two individuals.
The accused have been identified as Ramyan Yadav and Sabir Khan, both in their 50s and natives of Chhattisgarh. A preliminary probe revealed that Yadav and Khan were the driver and cleaner of the truck. They had been transporting poultry feed from Chhattisgarh to Tamil Nadu. The accused had concealed contraband in the poultry feed, the police said.
An investigator in the case told The Hindu that they had received credible inputs from informants and waylaid the truck near Bannerghatta Road. A check of the poultry feed led to the seizure of 250 kg of ganja.
The Jigani police arrested the accused, and further investigations revealed that they were transporting the contraband to hand it over to a receiver in Bengaluru. The accused told the police that a man from their native place had befriended them and sent the contraband through them.
The police have booked the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are investigating further.
