The State government has sanctioned a ₹31.73 crore drinking water project for Dharmavaram municipality in Sri Sathya Sai district under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, providing a major boost to the town’s long-pending demand for safe and improved drinking water infrastructure.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav had earlier made sustained efforts to secure approval for the project aimed at strengthening the municipal water supply system.

According to an official press release, the project is intended to enhance water distribution and ensure a more reliable supply of drinking water across Dharmavaram town. As part of the scheme, new pumping systems will be installed near the CBR intake well and at Thammapuram village. Two high-capacity vertical turbine pumps will be set up at the intake point, while additional centrifugal pumps will support water distribution.

The project also includes the construction of three elevated service reservoirs, each with a storage capacity of 1,000 KL, at Ramnagar-2, Shantinagar and Giriraj Colony. In addition, the existing water treatment plant will be upgraded into a 10 MLD facility to cater to the increasing demand for drinking water.

Further, over 35 km of HDPE pipelines and 722 metres of DI K9 pipelines will be laid across various localities. The works will also cover the installation of valve chambers, air valves and sluice valves, besides road restoration.

Officials said the upgraded water supply network would incorporate automation, GIS mapping and hydraulic modelling to improve monitoring, operational efficiency and future planning.
