Telangana government received appreciation from the Central government for its innovative initiatives and pro-active measures in transport reforms and road safety.

In a letter addressed to the Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari praised the new practices like abolition of transport check posts, integration of Vahan and Sarathi platforms, automated driving testing tracks, and road safety audits.

Mr. Gadkari said Telangana was in tune with the Central government’s vision of digital governance that brought the Transport department close to the people and appreciated how it had helped seamless transport administration, and improved road safety.

The Union Minister also commended the State government’s efforts in promoting sustainable mobility and conducting public awareness programmes during the national road safety month.

Mr Ponnam Prabhakar told The Hindu that Telangana was a pioneer in promoting the usage of electronic vehicles by abolishing the registration charges.
