The Vizianagaram district administration has stepped up work on pending land acquisitions for major projects, including Tarakarama Teertha Sagar, Thotapalli and Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi, after the State government directed senior officials to complete the task within two months.

The government needs about 800 acres for various projects in the district. Land acquisition is yet to be completed for the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh, which is set to begin classes from the 2026-27 academic year on its new campus in Chinamedapalli village, near Mentada in Vizianagaram district. The university needs additional land for the second phase of construction, an approach road and other facilities.

The Railway department has also sought early completion of land acquisition at several places for the Kothavalasa-Vizianagaram fourth railway line.

District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy told The Hindu that the acquisition would be completed smoothly with the cooperation of farmers and property owners. He directed the revenue department and other departments concerned to ensure payments to property owners and upload the bills quickly so that the remaining farmers came forward to surrender their land. There was no paucity of funds for the acquisition, he said.

Joint Collector S. Sedhu Madhavan, Vizianagaram Revenue Divisional Officer S. Sudha Sagar and other officials assured the Collector that weekly meetings would be held to review the acquisition process at several places.
