The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has uncovered widespread violations in 115 pharmacies attached to corporate hospitals across the State. This was part of a special drive carried out across Telangana on Saturday.
The inspections were conducted at pharmacies located within or attached to corporate hospitals. The drive revealed multiple irregularities, including the dispensing of prescription medicines without the presence of a registered pharmacist, non-maintenance of sales bills, and the absence of proper prescription and Schedule H1 drug registers. In several cases, pharmacies failed to produce purchase bills for the medicines stocked, the release said.
The teams also found instances of drugs being sold without prescriptions from registered medical practitioners, irregularities in maintaining copies of sales and purchase bills, improper storage of thermolabile drugs, stocking of physician’s samples, and even expired medicines stored alongside saleable stock.
The DCA has issued show-cause notices to all these 115 pharmacies and stated that further action would be taken under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.
