DMK president M.K. Stalin has resigned as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. A communication in this regard was sent to Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Monday (May 4, 2026) night, following the defeat of the ruling DMK in the Assembly elections.

An official statement from the Lok Bhavan on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) said that Governor Arlekar has accepted the resignation of Mr. Stalin, as well as that of his Council of Ministers. “The Governor has requested him [Mr. Stalin] to continue in office until alternate arrangements are made,” the statement said.
