HYDERABAD

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, seized 12 kg of hydroponic marijuana valued at around ₹12 crore at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad on Saturday (September 20, 2025).

Acting on specific intelligence, officials intercepted an Indian passenger who had arrived from Dubai. A search of her baggage led to the recovery of 6 kg of hydroponic marijuana concealed in packets. Tests confirmed the substance as cannabis.

During questioning, the passenger disclosed that another piece of her checked-in baggage had been declared misplaced. She had already lodged a complaint with the airline.

The missing bag arrived in Hyderabad on September 20 and, upon inspection, was found to contain another 6 kg of hydroponic marijuana.

In total, 12 kg of the high-grade narcotic was seized. The passenger has been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Officials said the investigation was continuing to trace the wider network involved in the smuggling attempt.
