Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday (May 3, 2026) attacked the Sangh Parivar over press freedom, saying its message is clear that independent journalism will be punished, and compliance rewarded.

Calling for deep introspection by all stakeholders on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Mr. Kharge, in a post on X, alleged that sections of the media have been reduced to echoing the ruling establishment, while those who persist in asking questions are “targeted relentlessly”.
