The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has convened the Empanelment Committee Meeting (ECM) in Delhi on May 11 to shortlist the names of three qualifying officers fit for appointment as Director-General of Police/Head of the Police Force (DGP/HoPF) of the Tamil Nadu Police.

The next DGP/HoPF, expected to be appointed by the newly elected government in the second week of this month, would have a minimum tenure of two years irrespective of the date of superannuation as per the Supreme Court guidelines in the Prakash Singh case. The Chief Secretary and Home Secretary would represent Tamil Nadu in the ECM which was deferred on two earlier occasions.
