A sudden summer squall swept across Thrissur district on Saturday evening, leaving a trail of damage to houses, power lines and crops, while also disrupting daily life and festival events. Strong winds uprooted trees, snapped electricity lines and poles, and triggered widespread power outages, which in turn affected water supply in several local bodies.

The worst-hit areas were in the Irinjalakuda region. Uprooted trees damaged transformers, electricity posts and overhead lines at multiple locations, plunging large parts of the area into darkness. Officials said restoration efforts were under way, though a full assessment of losses is yet to be completed.
