A total of 4,87,98,833 voters out of the 5,73,43,291 electors turned up at 75,064 polling booths and exercised their franchise in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election held on April 23, as per the official figures released by the Election Commission of India (EC) on Saturday.
The total votes polled are likely to go up after the final figures are out, as the above figures do not include postal ballots of officials and police personnel deployed on election duty, service voters, and those who cast their votes through Form 12D, comprising persons aged 85 and above and persons with disabilities. However, the votes of nearly 1.1 lakh officials, who voted directly at polling stations using Election Duty Certificates (EDC) have been factored into the above numbers.
