With just about a day left before the counting of votes in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, the role of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has come into sharp focus within the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).

Should the coalition secure a mandate on May 4, the IUML, as a key constituent, is expected to play a decisive role not only in government formation but also in shaping leadership choices, particularly the Chief Ministerial pick, at a time when multiple Congress leaders are vying for the post.
