Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) N. Balram has been selected as the best CMD in South India by the Asia Pacific HRM Congress. The award was presented at the national-level conference held at Bengaluru on Thursday night.

According to the officials of SCCL, Mr. Balram was selected for the honour for his exemplary leadership in driving SCCL’s growth, achieving record performance in the past year and laying strong financial foundations through strategic business expansion plans.

The officials said Mr. Balram was instrumental in commencing the coal mining operations at the Naini coal block in Odisha, securing licenses for gold and copper exploration in Karnataka and taking steps to enter the critical minerals sector. He also initiated the agreements for solar and thermal power projects in Rajasthan. His efforts in financial engineering, worker welfare programmes and corporate social responsibility were also widely appreciated. The SCCL had introduced a ₹1 crore accident insurance cover for every worker, undertook extensive CSR initiatives in nearby villages and advanced environmental conservation efforts with Mr. Balram personally planting over 20,000 saplings.

Mr. Balram dedicated the award to the collective efforts of SCCL’s workers and officers. “The recognition is not mine alone, but it belongs to the entire Singareni family”, he said. The award was presented to him by Chairman and Director of the Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management, Kolkata, Prof. R.P. Banerjee, and Founder of the Advantage Group Smriti Bhatt Deora.
