The Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) has mandated that students read Kannada daily newspapers for at least 10 minutes every day after morning prayers in all government, aided, and unaided schools in the State.

The practice is mandated in residential schools, hostels, and child care institutions run by various government departments as well.
